In December 1977, James D. Jacob (Jake) and his eldest son James Jr. (Bud) founded the Jacob Co. At the time, Jake was Vice President with Central Hardware Corporation, overseeing the installed products division for stores throughout the Midwest.
Working in the industry, Jake saw firsthand the two most common shortfalls contractors possess: they overpromise and under-deliver.He approached Bud in the fall of 1977 with a vision: "If we run a home improvement company on one simple principle, we can be very successful. Simply do what we say we are going to do."
Jake and Bud quickly set their plan into motion. After convincing the bank to lend them the startup capital, they soared into the small business world. The two of them had no idea this new little business would grow into one of the region's top remodelers with national recognition.
During those first years, Jake was always telling the crews that quality was the most important thing. This became our enduring motto: "Where Quality Counts."

Jake and Bud Jacob founded the Jacob Co. in December with one guiding principle: deliver on every promise. The company's foundation was built on trust, quality workmanship, and treating customers like family.
Throughout the decade, Jacob Co. established itself as St. Louis's trusted name in home remodeling. Our commitment to quality earned recognition throughout the Midwest, and "Where Quality Counts" became more than a motto—it became our promise.
Scott Jacob took over as President, bringing fresh vision while honoring the family's founding values. Under his leadership, the company expanded both retail and commercial divisions, growing our reach across the region.
Jake passed away after a long battle with cancer, but his legacy lives on. He left behind a family business that still believes in the same values that started it all in 1977. His spirit continues to guide every project we undertake.
Jacob Showers and Baths emerged as a specialized division, bringing the family's legacy of quality to bathroom remodeling. We've transformed thousands of outdated bathrooms into beautiful, functional spaces—always delivered with the Jacob touch.
Jacob purchased Chesley Fence & Deck Co., the premier fence and deck company in the metro area since 1967. Chesley's commitment to quality made them a perfect fit for the Jacob family of companies.
Jacob acquired the assets of Daech & Bauer Roofing, a respected roofing company that had served the metro area for over two decades. This expansion strengthened our ability to serve St. Louis homeowners with comprehensive exterior solutions.
Jacob Showers and Baths continued to grow its reach across the St. Louis metro, investing in new product lines, design options, and faster installation systems. What started as a family business in 1977 now serves tens of thousands of homeowners across Missouri and Illinois.
Jacob Family Enterprises remains family owned and operated. Owners Scott and Beth Jacob, along with an incredible team, work hard to "get better every day" and keep Jacob at the top of the remodeling industry—just as Jake and Bud envisioned nearly 50 years ago.
